Prayer

Prayer is speaking with God. It's in the Bible, Psalm 4:3, TLB. "Mark this well: The Lord has set apart the redeemed for Himself. Therefore He will listen to me and answer when I call to Him."

Prayer is an awesome privilege. It's in the Bible, Hebrews 4:16, NKJV. "Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."

God is approachable. It's in the Bible, Psalm 65:2, TLB. "And because You answer prayer, all mankind will come to You with their requests."

How willing is God to hear and answer prayer? It's in the Bible, Matthew 7:11, NIV. "If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!"

Prayers are not magic. It's in the Bible, Matthew 6:7-8, TLB. "Don't recite the same prayer over and over as the heathen do, who think prayers are answered only by repeating them again and again. Remember, your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask Him!"

Upon what conditions are we promised needed blessings? It's in the Bible, Matthew 7:7-8, NIV. "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."

Our motive for prayer needs to be in the right place. It's in the Bible, James 4:3, NKJV. "You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures"

What should we do if we don't know what to do? Pray for wisdom. It's in the Bible, James 1:5, NKJV. " If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him."

Under what condition does the psalmist say the Lord will not hear prayer? It's in the Bible, Psalm 66:18-19, NIV. "If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; but God has surely listened and heard my voice in prayer."

Does God ever refuse to listen to a prayer? It's in the Bible, Proverbs 28:9, TLB. "God doesn't listen to the prayers of men who flout the law."

God can only get through to us, when we are willing to listen. it's in the Bible, 2 Chronicles 7:14, NKJV. "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."

Can I pray and wait for God to handle everything? Prayer and faith do not replace what you can do of your own efforts. It's in the Bible, James 2:18, NKJV. "But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works"

In whose name are we to pray? It's in the Bible, John 14:13-14, TLB. "You can ask for anything, using My name, and I will do it, for this will bring praise to the Father because of what I, the Son, will do for you. Yes, ask anything, using My name, and I will do it."

Don't forget to thank God for His answers to prayer. It's in the Bible, Philippians 4:6, TLB. "Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything; tell God your needs and don't forget to thank Him for His answers."

How often should we pray? It's in the Bible, Ephesians 6:18, TLB. "Pray all the time. Ask God for anything in line with the Holy Spirit's wishes. Plead with Him, reminding Him of your needs, and keep praying earnestly for all Christians everywhere."

It's in the Bible, I Thessalonians 5:17, NKJV. "pray without ceasing."

Did Jesus pray? Yes, often. It's in the Bible, Luke 5:16, NKJV. "So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed."

Don't give up! God won't fail to answer your prayers - the failure only comes if we don't persevere in prayer. It's in the Bible, Luke 18:1, NKJV. "Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart"

We can pray to know God's will. It's in the Bible, John 14:26, "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your rememberance all things that I said to you."

Sometimes God answers our prayers before we ask Him. It's in the Bible, Isaiah 65:24, NKJV. " It shall come to pass that before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will hear"

Sometimes God says no to our prayer requests. It's in the Bible, 2 Corinthians 12:8-9, NIV. "Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me"

Sometimes God answers our prayer by saying, wait awhile. It's in the Bible, Psalm 37:7, NIV. "Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him."

There is no limit to God's ability to help! It's in the Bible, Ephesians 3:20, NKJV. "Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,"

How fully has God promised to supply our needs? It's in the Bible, Philippians 4:19, NKJV. "And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus"

What if I don't know how or what to pray about? It's in the Bible, Romans 8:26-27, TLB. "And in the same way—by our faith—the Holy Spirit helps us with our daily problems and in our praying. For we don't even know what we should pray for, nor how to pray as we should; but the Holy Spirit prays for us with such feeling that it cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows, of course, what the Spirit is saying as He pleads for us in harmony with God's own will."

Upon what condition does Christ say we shall receive the answers to our prayers? It's in the Bible, Mark 11:24, NKJV. "Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them"

What petitions may we confidently expect God to hear? It's in the Bible, I John 5:14-15, NIV. "This is the assurance we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hear us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him."

Does the Bible give a model prayer? It's in the Bible, Matthew 6:9-11, NIV. "This is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Amen."
